Corrective Exercise in Kingsport, TN

Adjustments and soft tissue work can ease pain and restore motion. Corrective exercise is what makes that improvement last. It's a short list of targeted exercises, chosen from your exam, that build strength, control and mobility where your body needs it. At Elevate Sport and Spine in Kingsport, Dr. Preston Douglas, DC, CCSP, ATC (Tennessee License #3451) uses his athletic training background to design and progress the program, at home or supervised in the office.

What it involves

  1. 1.Assessment. Dr. Douglas looks at how you move: squatting, bending, reaching, balancing, and the movements tied to your work or sport.
  2. 2.A short list. Usually three to five exercises, not a 40-minute routine you won't do.
  3. 3.Teaching. You learn each one in the office until you're confident doing it right.
  4. 4.Progression. As you get stronger, the exercises get harder or more specific, until you're back to what you want to do.

Two examples

A desk worker with neck pain and headaches. The exam shows stiffness in the upper back and weak deep neck muscles. The program starts with chin tucks and upper back mobility, adds shoulder blade strengthening, then builds endurance for long workdays. Adjustments ease the pain early; the exercises keep it from coming back. Neck pain, Headaches.

A runner with knee pain. The exam shows weak hip muscles and the knee drifting inward on a single-leg squat. The program starts with hip strengthening and step-downs, adds single-leg balance and landing work, then a graded return to mileage. Knee pain.
